Departmental Service: Personnel & Budget Committee: Music & Art
Fall 2017-present

  • Served on hiring committees for four full-time tenure positions: one Studio Art, one Art History, two Jazz & Popular Music; and one full-time lecturer position for Music Survey with expertise in Jazz & Popular music. 

  • Review of seven faculty promotions to associate professor: two in Music and three in Studio Art and two in Art History. 

  • Advisory review of three faculty promotions to full professor of Studio Art 

  • Review of seven faculty proposals for Scholarly leave: One one-year leave in Music, two one-year leaves in Art History, and three one-year leaves for Studio Art 

  • Plan all budgetary and staffing issues within the department such as hiring of art models, music tutors, staff pianists, piano maintenance, supplemental instructors, office staff CLT, CA positions, etc.



Departmental Service: Music & Art Department Deputy Chair
Fall 2017-present

  • Assist chair with all aspects of departmental operations as they pertain to the music side of the department. 

  • Hiring of new adjunct faculty

  • Assigning of courses to fulfill full-time faculty loads and adjunct faculty one-year and three-year appointment obligations. 

    • Growth and Development of Music Program. 

      • Jazz & Popular Music Specialization: Implemented Fall 2021. Provided innovation, guidance and support for the development of our newest music specialization. 

  • Enrollment growth: After the initial implementation of the music major with three specializations (Music Studies, Music Education, and Music Performance) in the fall of 2017 with 45 students, we immediately began working on meeting the educational needs of more students to achieve their musical goals. We currently have 155 music majors, a growth of over 300%. Of the 155 students, approximately one-third are in the new Jazz & Popular Music specialization.  

  • Program Curriculum Revisions: 

    • Changed “applied studies” in the Music Studies concentration to accept additional music courses to fulfill the 6 credits requirement of the concentration to meet a broader spectrum of music career goals; Fall 2018.  

    • Changed MUS123 to be an alternative prerequisite for the music core classes to help students track into music core classes; Fall 2021. 

    • Revision of Syllabi: updated requirements and learning outcomes for MUS105 Exploring Music, a crucial course for our program as one of the prerequisites for the music core classes; Spring 2021.

  • Applied Studies (Private Instruction and Studio Class): provide support through coordination of instructors, staff pianists, recitals, and final exam juries. Applied Studies is a key component of a solid musical training. 

  • Ensemble support: encourage growth and sustaining development of ensembles that form an important part of students’ musical training, by working with professors to schedule the ensembles, and staff pianists, as well as promotional materials and concert scheduling.



Departmental Service: Departmental Scheduling 
Fall 2016-present (I began these duties in 2013 and continue to do them as Deputy Chair)

  • Create draft of Music Department schedule for every term, including Winter and Summer. This has been particularly challenging with the implementation of the new music major and then the addition of the new Jazz & popular Music concentration

  • Assist the chair with instructor assignments.

  • Hiring of music adjunct professors and staff

  • Teaching/workload schedules: communicate with full-time faculty in the department to ensure proper workloads.

  • Submit schedules to, and review completed schedules with, Registrar’s office.


Departmental Service: Program Director for Music Major 
Fall 2016-Spring 2018. 

  • Finalized and presented our first ever music major to the College Curriculum Committee. Upon its acceptance at the state level and in cooperation with the Chair, Registrar and Academic Affairs, I helped oversee all aspects of the implementation of the new Music Major. This included but was not limited to the following:

    • Initial offering of new courses for the major. Organization of the applied studies program. Hiring staff pianists for the applied studies program and new ensembles

    • Revising the curriculum for the A.S. specialization in Music Studies to broaden the scope of the program to allow students to complete the specialization who have interests beyond performance. 

    • Oversaw Revision of 23 syllabi as part of the curriculum revision stated above.

    • Chaired Music Major Committee meetings.


Departmental Service: Other 

  • Bloomingdale School of Music: Recruitment Presenter representing the BMCC Music Department to high school music students. NYC. 22 October 2022 

  • BMCC Club Hour Concert Series: Developed plans with adjunct instructor, Matthew Goeke, for a new concert series for the BMCC community where faculty and students are provided a time and space to perform. Initial concerts were presented by faculty members Ina Litera, Matthew Goeke, and Howard Meltzer. Concerts: 23 March & 27 April 2022. 

  • BMCC Open House: Music Department Representative. Session Presenter representing Music Department. 10 November 2021, 24 October 2020, 27 October 2018 

  • BMCC Student Recitals: Coordinator: all aspects of planning: scheduling, programming, facilitating, etc. (see also Student Guidance). 2016-2018 

  • BMCC Teacher Education Day. Represented the Music Program Specialization in Music Education A.S. degree. 22 February 2018 and 21 February 2017 

  • Music & Art Department Faculty Recitals: Director/Coordinator for concerts presented every semester in Theater II for the benefit and enrichment of the college and community. 2016-2017

    Collaborative cellist with various faculty chamber ensembles for performances at BMCC every semester since hired.

College Service: Committees

  • Fiterman Art Center Assistant Curator: Search Committee. Reviewed over 290 applicants, attended planning meetings, and interviewed nine candidates with other committee members: Manuel Romero, Executive Director of Public Affairs; and Sara Crosby, Director of the Learning Academy. Spring 2022

  • BMCC Foundation Scholarship/Money Works Scholarship: Committee/Adjudicator. Evaluate and review student scholarship applications and provide a ranking order. Spring 2022, Spring 2018, Fall 2017, Spring 2017, Fall 2016

  • First Year Experience (FYE): Committee Representative. Music & Art Department representative to college committee. Assist within the department to develop models for FYE content within existing music courses. Spring 2022

  • E-Learning Faculty Resource Committee. Contributed as an advisor on the counsel. Promoted the training and implementation of fully online asynchronous courses for the Music & Art Department. Fall 2016-Spring 2018

  • Honors Convocation: On behalf of the Music & Art Department, I presented Weinstein & McGill Award for Academic Excellence in Music to Luz Colon. 1 June 2021

  • Course Hub Development.  MUS102 Understanding Music (formerly Principles of Music) is a high enrollment course taught by many of the Music Department adjunct faculty.   • Guided Pathways: BMCC Gateway Project. Planning Committee & Presenter for adjunct professional development workshop to improve DFW rates in high enrollment courses in music. 20 August 2018
